New York 2017: Audi Introduces 2 New Road Rockets

If you’re into small cars that offer big performance, the launch of the 2018 Audi TT RS coupe and the 2018 Audi RS3 sedan at the 2017 New York International Auto Show is reason to rejoice.

Audi’s latest coupe features an all-new 2.5L TFSI engine generating 400 hp and 354 lb-ft of torque, the most ever by a TT. It also generates a distinctive 5-cylinder sound, and is wedded to Audi’s quattro all-wheel drive system and a 7-speed S tronic dual-clutch transmission that can take the car from a stop to 100 km/h in 3.7 seconds. Drivers can alternate between four different driving modes: Comfort, Auto, Dynamic and Individual.

The interior of the new 2018 Audi TT RS 2018 is race-inspired and focused on the driver, notably with the inclusion of such elements as S sport seats, Audi’s virtual cockpit and a new multifunction sport steering wheel fitted with shift paddles. As for the design, particularly noteworthy is the option of adding 20" alloy wheels, and especially the organic LED taillights―a first for a commercially produced Audi car.

For its part, the 2018 Audi RS3 Sedan is available for the very first time in North America; it features the same engine, transmission and all-wheel drive system as the TT RS, but its 0-100 km/h acceleration is roughly 0.3 seconds slower. Obviously, the big advantage the sedan has over its coupe sibling is the rear seating, which is able to accommodate two adult passengers, and the 350-litre trunk.

Visually, the RS3 separates itself from the other members of the A3 lineup via its distinctive grille up front, exhaust tailpipes and diffuser at the rear, as well as S sport seats inside.

Canadian prices for the 2018 Audi TT RS and RS3 will be announced as time of their arrival at dealerships approaches, somewhere around this summer.
