The 2026 Volvo XC40 remains comfortable and sensible, but the redesigned 2026 Audi Q3 feels more energetic, modern and connected. A Little More Urgency Goes a Long Way

Both SUVs use turbocharged engines and all wheel drive, but the Audi has the advantage when traffic opens up. Its 2.0 litre engine produces 255 horsepower and 273 lb ft of torque. The Volvo XC40 B5 AWD delivers 247 horsepower and 258 lb ft. The Q3 reaches 100 km/h in 5.9 seconds, while Volvo lists 6.4 seconds for the XC40.
That difference helps when joining the Gardiner Expressway or finding space on Highway 401. The Volvo feels calm, but the Q3 has the quicker response.

The Screen Difference Is Hard to Miss

An 11.9 inch Audi virtual cockpit sits beside a 12.8 inch MMI touchscreen, creating a clean digital area that keeps information easy to see. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard, so drivers can connect without a cable across the console.


The XC40 uses a 12.3 inch driver display, but its 9 inch centre touchscreen looks small beside the Audi system. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto require a USB C connection, which is less convenient for quick trips.


Premium Should Not Begin With an Upgrade

Every 2026 Q3 includes a panoramic sunroof, heated front seats, driver memory, acoustic front door glass and a standard S line exterior. The panoramic roof is not included on the XC40 Core. Volvo buyers must choose the Plus trim to receive it, while Pilot Assist is reserved for the Ultra trim.
The Audi also offers an available head up display, top view camera and 12 speaker Sonos sound system.

New Confidence for Old Toronto Streets

The Q3 looks fresh without trying too hard. Its Singleframe grille, integrated LED headlights, shoulder lines and rear light bar create a wider, sportier impression. Available OLED taillights can add customizable signatures.
The XC40 still has a distinctive Scandinavian look, but its familiar shape has changed less. Beside the redesigned Q3, it can feel older. The Audi suits Yorkville, the Distillery District and downtown garages where compact proportions matter.

Helpful Technology for the Daily Puzzle

Standard quattro all wheel drive supports traction through rain, slush and snow. Traffic sign recognition is also standard. Available adaptive cruise assist can maintain distance and provide lane guidance, while the available top view camera gives an overhead view during tight manoeuvres.
