Strength That Makes Sense

The Q5 uses a turbocharged 2.0 litre four cylinder engine producing 268 horsepower and 295 lb ft of torque. Its seven speed S tronic transmission and standard quattro all wheel drive help deliver smooth, predictable performance. The GV70 2.5T uses a larger engine and consumes more fuel.


The Q5 is rated at about 9.9 L/100 km combined, compared with 10.6 L/100 km for the GV70 2.5T. Audi also gives the Q5 a maximum towing capacity of 2,000 kg, while the GV70 is rated for approximately 1,588 kg with trailer brakes. That additional strength can be useful when pulling a small camper, boat, or equipment trailer outside Toronto.

A Cabin With Better Priorities

Audi separates important information between an 11.9 inch virtual cockpit and a standard 14.5 inch MMI touchscreen. The driver gets a clear display directly ahead, while navigation and entertainment remain in the centre. An available 10.9 inch passenger display adds another digital space without crowding the driver’s view.

The GV70 combines its instruments and infotainment into one 27 inch OLED panel. It creates an immediate visual impact, but reviewers have noted that the screen does not always use its size efficiently and sits relatively far from the driver. The console controller may also be mistaken for the nearby rotary gear selector. The Audi arrangement feels more natural when checking directions through busy Toronto traffic.

Calm Design for a Busy City

The Q5 brings a wide Singleframe grille, standard LED headlights, a clean roofline, and a full width rear light strip. Available customizable daytime running light signatures add personality without making the design feel overworked. The GV70 takes a more decorative approach, which may feel too busy for drivers who prefer understated European styling.

An available panoramic glass sunroof brightens the Q5 cabin. The optional S line black package adds sport seats, 20 inch wheels, darker exterior details, and a sportier steering wheel for drivers who want a sharper appearance.

Useful Help Without Extra Noise

Available adaptive cruise assist can maintain distance from traffic ahead and help keep the Q5 centred in its lane. An available head up display places key information within the driver’s sightline, while the optional forward facing dashcam records in 4K. Available adaptive air suspension can also adjust ride height and respond continuously to changing road conditions.

The GV70 includes terrain settings and several driver assistance systems, but it does not provide the same combination of adaptive air suspension, a dedicated passenger display, and an integrated 4K dashcam option. On damaged downtown pavement, snowy side streets, or longer drives along the Don Valley Parkway, those Audi features add meaningful comfort and convenience.
